Often found on the streets of neighborhoods known for nightlife, bars, late-night food, and salons — ATM machines have long been apart of the street, graffiti, and sticker culture of New York City.
Since the ATMs arrival in the 1970s, it has become a key part of the urban environment. In the 2020s, there has been a growing trend in the removal of these outdoor ATMs, as they are not utilized as much as they once were.
The graffiti and sticker artists of the city utilize these ATMs as prime locations for their street art. They use the streets as a public art forum, accessible to anyone for viewing or contributing. New York City is home to many artists making their mark, from the famous to the underground.
This photography collection is a preservation of street art history — a homage to the hard working artists that use the streets and ATMs as their canvas.
